Briggs & Forrester Special Projects Ltd, a market leader in the building services market to the construction industry and an existing Maziak partner, required expert support in delivering a complete compressed air system for a new Design, Engineering and Technology building being constructed for one of the UK’s top independent schools.
The entire system, from the compressor through the pipework, to the final drops, had to be energy efficient, to reflect the school’s ethos of waste reduction and improvement through better technology. The pipework installation work was to take place during term time presenting additional challenges.
Following detailed data gathering and close interaction with both Briggs & Forrester and the school, Maziak was able to confidently recommend an HPC SK22 T SFC. This is an 11kW variable speed machine, with an integral refrigerant drier, providing the best efficiency available within a relatively small package. Parker Legris Transair pipework was also recommended, as this offers a cleaner flow and thanks to its push-fit construction, allows considerable flexibility in its configuration.
The pipework installation was completed in two stages. Half of the pipework was fitted within the newly constructed section of the building, whilst the existing workshops continued to function uninterrupted. Then during school closure, the old pipework supplying the existing shops was renewed, providing a complete new ring-main, and connecting to the compressor plant to bring the whole system on-line.
Maziak’s flexible pipework solution was invaluable when, after completion of the planned works, additional drops were requested for new machinery. The additional works were completed with minimal difficulty or delay. At the end of the commissioning, within the project remit, Maziak also carried out a Written Scheme of Examination, to ensure full compliance with the PSSR2000 regulations.
Maziak successfully delivered their part of the wider Briggs & Forrester project, contributing to the completion of all of the required works within timescale, with minimal disruption to the school . The role of compressed air within a Design & Technology department is crucial and the school is now set up to deliver excellence to its pupils for many years to come.
