Rapid Nitrogen Gas Capacity Boost for Bio-Tech Expansion
The Challenge
The main contractor was modernising a biotechnology facility to expand its capacity for the research and development of specialist pharmaceuticals. During the upgrade, they identified a critical issue: a deficit in the existing nitrogen gas supply system.
The current nitrogen generator was found to be 50% undersized for the site’s operational needs. With project timelines under pressure, the contractor contacted the Maziak Compressor Services Projects Department for a fast and reliable solution to increase nitrogen gas capacity.
The Solution
The Maziak projects team conducted detailed calculations to correctly size the required nitrogen generation equipment. They also contacted Atlas Copco’s factory to confirm product availability and estimated lead times.
Two nitrogen generation solutions were presented to the client:
- A single new nitrogen generator to replace the existing unit.
- A second nitrogen generator to operate in parallel with the current system.
Although standard lead times for nitrogen generators are typically around four weeks, the factory confirmed that a larger-capacity unit was available from stock and unallocated, providing a rare opportunity for immediate installation.
The Result
The contractor ordered the in-stock nitrogen generator, and Maziak successfully completed the entire project—from initial enquiry to full installation and commissioning—in just four days.
This rapid turnaround was considered an excellent result by all stakeholders. The end user was especially pleased with the improved nitrogen gas supply and the minimal disruption to their operations.
