Our client is a leading European manufacturer of engineered wood products, renowned for its laminated veneer lumber and high-quality birch and spruce plywood. As part of a larger international group that oversees the entire wood value chain—from forest to finished product—they are committed to delivering sustainable and efficient solutions to the construction, industrial, and distribution sectors.
At their largest UK production site in Boston, Lincolnshire, timber is imported from continental Europe and processed into construction-ready materials. The site comprises multiple production buildings, each dedicated to a specific stage of the manufacturing process. Every building operates its own independent compressed air system, tailored to its shift patterns and spatial layout.
Maziak has proudly held the service contract for maintaining the site's extensive air compressor infrastructure for over 30 years. In one of the buildings, an Ingersoll Rand compressor—installed by Maziak more than two decades ago—had begun to show signs of unreliability. Our service technician recommended replacing it with a modern, energy-efficient Atlas Copco unit to enhance reliability and reduce both energy and maintenance costs.
Rather than opting for a straightforward like-for-like replacement, Maziak applied its data-driven approach to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective solution. We installed dataloggers to monitor the compressor’s electrical consumption and compressed air usage over a two-week period. This allowed us to capture a comprehensive profile of the system’s performance, including production peaks and troughs.
Once the data was collected, our expert sales team conducted a detailed analysis to determine the optimal replacement strategy. Based on the findings, we proposed replacing the existing fixed-speed 11kW compressor with a variable-speed 7.5kW Atlas Copco unit—designed to deliver the same performance with significantly lower energy consumption.
With this upgrade, the client is now well-positioned for another 20 years of dependable service—powered by Maziak’s expertise and Atlas Copco’s cutting-edge technology.
