Breathing Air Quality Compliance for LPG Supplier

The Challenge

Our client is a leading supplier of clean and efficient LPG and energy solutions across England, Scotland, and Wales. Their offerings include off-grid LPG bulk gas, LPG gas bottles, and aerosol propellant.

At their distribution and maintenance site near Bury St Edmunds, the client operates a facility that refurbishes gas cylinders and containers of various sizes. This process involves shot blasting and repainting each unit to ensure they are in excellent condition and ready for outdoor use.

During shot blasting and painting, it is critical to supply clean, dry compressed air for employees using air-fed masks. Compliance with HSE regulations is essential to ensure the air quality is safe and the equipment is fit for purpose.

Maziak provides a regular service to test and certify the quality of compressed air at the site. These certificates are often reviewed during HSE audits, making them a vital part of the site's safety and compliance strategy. Best practice recommends monthly or quarterly testing, depending on usage and risk assessment.

Since installing the compressed air system in 2018, Maziak has conducted frequent breathing air quality checks. During one such test, we discovered the air no longer met the BSEN12021 standard. Follow-up tests confirmed this was a new issue requiring a long-term solution to protect employee health.

The Solution

A thorough survey revealed that the existing filtration system, supplied with the OEM shot blasting and painting equipment, was no longer sufficient. It could not effectively remove contaminants from the ambient air entering the compressor.

Maziak recommended replacing the basic filter pack with an Atlas Copco BAP unit—a robust solution designed to guarantee breathing air quality regardless of ambient conditions. When maintained according to manufacturer guidelines, the BAP unit ensures compliance with BSEN12021 standards.

Regular testing and certification remain essential to validate ongoing compliance.

The Result

With the new Atlas Copco BAP unit installed, the site now benefits from consistently safe, compliant breathing air. But don’t just take our word for it—here’s what the customer had to say on Trustpilot:

"First class installation. Kept updated regularly on delivery time and the engineer was very thorough with explanation on working of the equipment. Area left neat and tidy after install, no complaints."

This feedback reflects the professionalism, clarity, and care Maziak brings to every project. The successful resolution of a potentially serious safety issue underscores our commitment to quality and compliance.
