Maziak Powers Award-Winning ASI Newark Aviation Training Facility
Maziak Compressors has proudly played a pivotal role in the construction of the ASI Newark Aviation Training Facility, which recently earned the prestigious title of Construction Project of the Year at the East Midlands Property Dinner Awards 2024. The facility, designed to support the next generation of aviation professionals, relies on a sophisticated compressed air system developed and installed by Maziak Compressors.
From Concept to Completion
The ASI Newark project was developed as a cutting-edge aviation training facility, with specific requirements for compressed air to support engineering and electrical workshops. Maziak Compressors was brought on board early in the process, collaborating closely with Building Services Consultants at RIBA Stage 2 to design the compressed air system.
The brief was clear: design a system that would meet the demanding needs of the university’s aviation training program. The system would need to supply clean, dry air across multiple training rooms, including specialised areas for circuit board work and tooling. Maziak’s Projects Team worked closely with consultants to design a solution that met these requirements, while also ensuring cost-effectiveness and scalability.
A Winning Design
Maziak’s system design featured two Atlas Copco GA7 Tank Mounted Compressors in a Duty/Assist configuration, ensuring a reliable and continuous air supply to the facility. To maintain the highest air quality, a CD35 Dryer was incorporated into the system, along with advanced filtration technology that achieved ISO 8573-1:2010 Air Quality Class 1.2.1—an international standard for air purity.
In addition, Maziak installed a 250L Air Receiver to ensure a constant store of clean, dry air was available in every learning space. This system is critical for aviation training, where precise air quality is required for the proper functioning of equipment used in hands-on learning.
Meeting the Challenge
Like many large construction projects, the ASI Newark facility came with a tight deadline for Practical Completion (PC). However, Maziak Compressors rose to the challenge, completing the project on time and within budget, despite the complex demands of the system.
The success of the project is a testament to Maziak’s experience in the construction industry and its ability to manage large-scale projects from concept through to completion.
