Choosing the right filter for your air compressor

Compressed air is full of particles such as dust, oil and moisture and these contaminants can potentially harm the end-user. This is where inline air compressor filters enter the picture.

The type of filter you should choose depends on the quality of air required for your application process to work efficiently. We’ve listed three of the different types of air filters you can choose from.

Particulate Air Filters

This filter uses a membrane that only lets air pass through and blocks contaminants such as dust, pollen and dirt.

Activated Carbon Air Filters

These filters are often referred to as vapour removal filters, as carbon is used to attract gaseous contaminants and immobilise them. The good thing about Carbon is that it has a large surface area which makes it a very durable type of filter.

Coalescing Air Filters

This filter removes liquids like water, aerosols, lubricants and other oil particulates from the air.

The filter coalesces contaminant particles to create larger particles, which in turn reduces their ability to remain suspended in the airflow and so fall to the bottom of the filter and the liquid is drained out.
